Grade 1: Patterns in Music- Making Tambourines

I created an Arts Education lesson for my grade 1 pre-internship revolving around having the students identifty patterns in music. For this lesson, I had the students create tambourines out of paper plates. The students then practised following teacher-led patterns, and then had the opportunity to create their own patterns.  During this lesson, we focused primarly on AAB patterns. At the end of the lesson, the students practised playing the AAB pattern along to one of their favourite brain break songs.

Overall, I was very happy with how this lesson turned out. The students were very engaged, and couldn’t wait until they could play their tambourines to songs at home. The lesson can be viewed by downloading the following document.
